ST. LOUIS – Three UIC women's tennis players were named to the 2023 Missouri Valley Scholar-Athlete teams on Thursday evening, the conference announced.
Natalia Nikolopoulou was named to the Scholar-Athlete Team, while
Cora-Lynn von Dungern and
Agnes Gustafsson were listed as honorable mentions.
Natalia Nikolopoulou
The graduate student from Athens, Greece, boasts a 4.0 grade point average during a season in which she has posted a 20-9 overall record. She has won nine of her last ten matches, and is 6-1 in conference play going into the tournament. She is pursuing her master's degree in business administration.
Cora-Lynn von Dungern
The Mannheim, Germany native, has played anywhere from the four to six position for the Flames, with a 3-2 record in conference play. The graduate student's overall record is 13-10, and she has won her last two matches against DePaul (6-4, 5-7, 6-4) and Murray State (6-4, 6-7 (0-6), 10-3). With a perfect 4.0 grade point average, she is pursuing her master's degree in political science.
Agnes Gustafsson
The junior has been a solid No. 1 singles player for UIC, with a 5-2 conference record. A native of Paris, France, she's looking to keep her four-match win streak going throughout the MVC championship. Gustafsson is studying multiple majors in liberal arts and sciences, with a 3.76 grade point average.
These three Flames were handpicked from the conference to be distinguished as Scholar-Athletes. Illinois State's Elena Jankulovska was named the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women's tennis.
