CHICAGO – UIC track & field senior
Lia Skoufos was named a recipient of the Chancellor's Student Service Award (CSSA) at the 51
st Annual Chancellor's Student Service and Leadership Awards ceremony.
The Chancellor's Student Service Award (CSSA) honors students who have made an outstanding contribution to the University through campus and community service.
"I feel incredibly proud and appreciative to be able to represent the UIC Department of Athletics and the College of Applied Health Sciences in winning the Chancellor's Student Service award," Skoufos said. "Being able to give back and bring connections to the communities I am a part of brings me so much joy and I love to do my part to strengthen unity within UIC."
Winners of the award contributed a significant amount of time, effort and creativity to one or more campus or community service projects during the year. Outside of competing for UIC's track & field program, Skoufos recently completed a capstone project and research on hydration dynamics and the influence of beverage composition. She also works as an equipment room assistant with the Department of Athletics.
"To have one of our student-athletes be honored for their commitment and contribution to our university's success is an outstanding achievement," said track & field head coach Paul Zavala.
"Lia has shown a great amount of leadership throughout her time at UIC and we are extremely proud to have her represent our program."
Skoufos is graduating in May from UIC with a degree in kinesiology from the College of Applied Health Sciences. She is also a recipient of the Helen M. Barton Estate Fund Scholarship, awarded annually to students majoring in kinesiology.
