VIERA, Fla. – Former UIC softball standout
Kayla Wedl will be returning to the USSSA Pride for another season, the team announced Monday morning.
This will be Wedl's second season with the team after competing for the Pride in 2022.
She had the fourth-best batting average for the Pride last season at .314, with nine runs scored and six RBIs.
Wedl, one of the greatest players in UIC softball history, was a member of the Flames softball team from 2017-2021, and was a part of three Horizon League championship teams. She was a two-time Louisville/NFCA National Player of the Week and a 10-time Horizon League Player of the Week during her tenure. Wedl was also named First Team All-Region as a shortstop in 2019.
Wedl has the second-best batting average in program history at .378 and the third most RBIÂ with 190. She is now in her second season as an assistant coach for the program.
