Two Track & Field Athletes Break School Records

The Flames Competed in the Fighting Illini Challenge Saturday

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The UIC track and field team achieved two new school records and 15 overall personal bests on Saturday at the Fighting Illini Challenge, hosted by the University of Illinois. The Flames went up against top schools, such as Illinois, Iowa, Purdue, Northwestern, and DePaul. A few Missouri Valley Conference members were in attendance, like Northern Iowa and Bradley.
 
 TOP PERFORMANCES

MEN
  • Dathan Maton broke the 5000m school record (14:20.21), coming in second place. The record was previously set by Carlos Cabrera in 2022 with a time of 14:28.83.
  • Mark Lemke's time of 14:26.76 in the 5000m also put him in UIC's history books. He placed sixth in the event.
  • Georgios Siomos collected an eighth-place finish in Triple Jump, jumping a 12.89m.
  • In the 100m, Max Rivera ran into a new personal best and fourth-fastest time in Flames history (10.64). He crossed the finish line ninth.
  • Daniel Chavez has spot in UIC top-10 lists in the 5000m at fifth all-time. His time of 14:36.42 put him in eighth place and gave him a new personal record.
WOMEN
  • Haley Dahl ran a new collegiate best in the 400m hurdles. She's now 4th all-time at UIC, with a time of 1:05.58.
  • Emma Creviston ran a new personal best in the 5000m (17:42.38). She now ranks seventh all-time in Flames history books.
  • Kate Wojcikiewicz ran the 800m in 2:14.44. That's a new personal best and seventh in UIC history.
 
COACH'S COMMENT

"We are proud of how strong our team competed today against some very competitive teams in the Midwest," said head coach, Paul Zavala. "Also a great to have a school record broken by two teammates and several new additions to the top 10 all-time list this early in the outdoor season."
