Members of Track and Field Become Fastest Relay Team

Paul Sackman, Max Rivera, Dalton Burk, and Sacrad Michelin Broke the 4x100 Record

DES MOINES, Iowa – UIC's track and field team has returned from a successful three-day competition in Iowa. Several Flames competed in two meets: the Kip Janvrin Open, hosted by Simpson College, and the 113th Drake Relays.
 
TOP PERFORMANCES
 
Men:
  • Paul Sackman, Max Rivera, Dalton Burk, and Sacrad Michelin claimed the new school record in the 4x100m relay at the Drake Relays. Their time of 41.08 broke the previous record set in 2016.
  • Anthony Gordon won the long jump event at the Kip Janvrin Invite, jumping 6.76m. His performance puts him ninth in the Flames' history books.
  • The 4x200m relay team, consisting of Trevor Tousana, Max Rivera, Austin Beckon, and Sacrad Michelin, set a school record at the Drake Relays (1:27.98). Although it's not an NCAA event, they broke previous school record attempts, coming in seventh place.
Women:
  • Nyarai Terry is now second in school history for the 100m hurdles. Her time of 14.86 put her in third place at the Kip Janvrin Open.
  • Olivia Dumas etched her name in UIC history books as the second-fastest 100m runner. She ran a 12.27 at the Drake Relays.
  • Kate Wojcikiewicz ran a 2:13.53 in the 800m. Her time put her fifth in Flames history and fourth at the Kip Janvrin Open.
 
 COACH'S COMMENT
"Having several of our student-athletes compete at this year's 113th Drake Relays competition was an exciting and memorable step forward for our program," said Head Coach Paul Zavala. "After setting new school records and additions to the Top 10 all-time list, we are ready to finish our outdoor season strong."
 
UP NEXT
The Flames will now prepare for NIU's Huskie Classic on Saturday, May 6, before turning their attention to the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships, starting May 12.
