Dekalb, Ill. – The UIC track and field team concluded regular season competition over the weekend and is now preparing for the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships. Several athletes represented the Flames at two meets: the Billy Hayes Invitational hosted by Indiana University on Friday and NIU's Huskie Classic on Saturday.
TOP PERFORMANCES
Men:
- Anthony Gordon emerged as the top performer in the long jump, reaching 6.52m and securing a first-place finish at the Huskie Classic.
- Sacrad Michelin claimed second place in two events at the Huskie Classic: the 100m (10.84) and the 200m (22.07).
- Austin Beckon clocked in at 11.13 for the 100m at the Billy Hayes Invitational, placing 15th.
- Xion Russell completed the 400m in 52.17, finishing in 16th place at the Billy Hayes Invitational.
Women:
- Haley Dahl captured first place in the 400m hurdles (1:07.40) at the Huskie Classic.
- Lia Skoufos crossed the finish line third in the Huskie Classic's 400m, placing third (1:02.83).
- Kaitlynn Rogers is now fourth in UIC's record books for her 100m performance. She finished seventh with a time of 12.37.
COACH'S COMMENT
"This weekend provided a valuable opportunity to secure additional entries into the Missouri Valley Championships next weekend," said Head Coach Paul Zavala. "We have gained significant momentum as a team heading into the Outdoor Conference Championships and are excited to see our hard work pay off."
UP NEXT
The Flames will now shift their focus to the 2023 Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The competition will begin on Friday, May 12 and conclude on Sunday, May 14. It will be hosted by Illinois State in Normal, Ill.
