CHICAGO (Aug. 28, 2023) – Four student athletes were named to the Chicago Classic All-Tournament Team Monday afternoon. Each team was elected one representative, which were selected by the head coaches.
The four recipients include:
Ayat Amin Outside Hitter, Sophomore, UIC
38 kills, 47 total points, 49.2% attack percentage, eight block assists
The sophomore was a consistent offensive threat for the Flames, racking 38 kills to help UIC complete 3-0 weekend at the Chicago Classic. Beginning in the five-set thriller against St. Thomas Friday afternoon,
Amin immediately eclipsed her career high in kills, doubling it with 14 in the Flames 3-2 match victory. She followed that up with team-leading kills in sweep victories over Oakland (13) and Lindenwood (11) to finish up the weekend.
Rebecca Janke, Middle Blocker, Senior, Lindenwood
34 kills, 43.5 total points, 13 block assists, eight digs
Rebecca Janke was able to put up numbers on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. She had a total of 34 kills on the weekend including 16 vs. Oakland and 15 vs. St. Thomas. She also led the Lions in blocks with 14 over the weekend. Janke also led the Lions with a .260 hitting percentage (min. 30 attempts)
Emily Wichmann, Defensive Specialist/Libero, Junior, Oakland
61 digs, 21 assists, four services aces, two kills, six total points
The Crescent Springs, Kentucky native picked up right where she left off during her sophomore campaign. After finishing second in the Horizon League with an average of five digs-per-set, tallying 61 digs and 21 assists over Oakland's three matches, two of which she had at least 25 digs. In Oakland's victory over St. Thomas Saturday afternoon, Wichmann also recorded a match-high three aces.
Ella Vogel, Libero, Sophomore, St. Thomas
52 digs, 14 assists, three service aces, one kill, four total points
The sophomore libero led St. Thomas with an average of 4.0 digs per set, ranking fourth in the Summit League. Vogel began the Classic with 22 digs in the Tommies five set battle against the Flames. She completed her weekend with 19 digs and seven assists in four sets against Lindenwood.

UP NEXT
The Flames return to Credit Union 1 Arena to host three teams as part of the UIC Invitational. Competition begins Friday, Sept. 1 when UIC takes on SIUE (Noon) and UAB (7 p.m.). The Flames then finish up the invitational Saturday afternoon with a match-up against Western Michigan (1 p.m.). All three of UIC's matches will be available to stream on ESPN+ and live stats will be available throughout the two-day event on UICFlames.com
