CHICAGO (Jan. 23, 2024) – For the second time in a month, the Missouri Valley Conference selected UIC women's basketball graduate student guard/forward
Keimari Rimmer (Chicago, Ill./Proviso East/DePaul) as the conference's Newcomer of the Week Tuesday. The versatile guard/forward earned the same honor on
Jan. 3 following her 21-point performance in UIC's conference opener at Belmont.
"I'm just glad to be able to come in and give my best, give versatility, and give everybody a show," Rimmer said. "Coach Bracey always calls me a point-forward and I think we have a lot of those in the Valley. Like before, I want to give huge 'thank you' to my teammates and coaches because without them, none of this is possible."
Rimmer averaged 11.5 points and 11.0 rebounds in UIC's two MVC wins last week. On Sunday afternoon, she played a major role in the Flames' gritty overtime victory against Illinois State, finishing with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Two days prior, Rimmer added 12 points and nine rebounds in UIC's win over Bradley.
For the season, Rimmer ranks among the top 20 in the MVC in steals (7
th – 1.9 spg.), field-goal percentage (10
th - .500), rebounding (18
th – 6.1 rpg.) and scoring (20
th – 10.9 ppg.).
She is the second UIC player to receive a weekly honor from the MVC this season, following junior forward
Makiyah Williams (Chicago, Ill./Trinity/Marquette),
who earned the same award on Nov. 20. Rimmer is also one of three Flames chosen as MVC Newcomer of the Week since UIC joined The Valley prior to last season.
Rimmer and the Flames (10-7, 3-3 MVC) will hit the road for two conference games next week in the state of Indiana. The first stop will be Evansville on Friday for a 6 p.m. (CT) game with the Purple Aces before UIC heads to Terre Haute, Ind., next Sunday (Jan. 28) for a noon (CT) contest at Indiana State.
