LAST TIME OUT
UIC used a well-balanced attack to post a dominating 3-0 win over Indiana State on Tuesday night at Flames Field.
Madison Ferris,
Hannah Gryzik and
Amina Marin each scored their first goals of the season as the Flames rang up their highest offensive output of 2024 and their third straight shutout.
STARTING FRESH
UIC has fully embraced the clean slate offered by MVC play, going 3-0-2 in conference thus far and currently placing second on the league table with 11 points. In Valley contests, UIC has outscored its opponents, 7-1 with four shutouts (the only goal coming on an MSU PK) and has only trailed for 5:36 (between MSU's goal and UIC's response).Â
SCOUTINGÂ EVANSVILLE
Evansville enters Thursday's game with a 1-5-5 overall record and a 0-2-3 mark in MVC games, the fourth consecutive season the Purple Aces have recorded at least five ties. UE last took the pitch on Sunday, playing to a 1-1 tie at home against visiting Drake, thanks to the tying goal from junior forward Amy Velazquez in the 83rd minute.
Velasquez and freshman defender Emmy Brenner have a team-high two goals each for Evansville, while Velasquez and senior forward Hailey Autenrieb lead the Purple Aces with five points (Autenrieb has a team-best three assists). Fifth-year goalkeeper Myia Danek is ranked 28th in the nation with 5.6 saves per game, owning a 1.63 goals-against average and .778 save percentage with both UE shutouts this year.
UIC and Evansville did not meet prior to the Flames joining the MVC for the 2022 season. Since then, the two sides have split their only two matchups, each winning 1-0 on their respective home pitches on goals in the final 10 minutes. UIC captured the inaugural meeting in 2022 behind an 81st-minute goal from current junior forwardÂ
Sophia Jaime, before Evansville took last year's encounter on a goal by current junior defender Kaylee Woosley with 4:43 to play.
