SCOUTING LSU
- The Tigers have opened the season on a 13-game winning streak dating back to Nov. 4. They are less than 24 hours removed from a 91-64 road victory over Seton Hall (8-3) at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. Tuesday night.
- The Tigers were led by Chicago-native Aneesah Morrow. The senior scored 24 points and grabbed 19 rebounds in 35 minutes of play against the Pirates. Morrow returns home for the first time since transferring from DePaul (2021-23), set to battle against her former teammate Keimari Rimmer (Chicago, Ill./Proviso East/DePaul), who is entering her second season at UIC.
- Fresh off the heels of their 2023 NCAA DI National Championship, the Tigers made another push deep into March Madness during the 2023-24 season, before falling to No. 1 Iowa (34-5) 94-87 in the Elite Eight in a rematch from the previous year's national title game.
- LSU is led by Hall-of-Fame head coach Kim Mulkey, who is entering her fourth season with the Tigers. After a successful stint as a member of Louisiana Tech's (1980-84) women's basketball team that resulted in two national championships, Mulkey spent 15 seasons as a member of the Bulldog's coaching staff before becoming Baylor's head coach prior to the 2000-01 season. Mulkey amassed 632 wins in her 21 seasons with the Bears, collecting three National Titles (2004-05, 2011-12, 2018-19) during her tenure. Returning back home to Louisiana, Mulkey has 474 wins with the Tigers and her fourth National Title as a head coach two seasons ago. Through her efforts as a head coach and a player, Mulkey was inducted into the Naismith Hall-of-Fame in 2020.
- This will be the second time the Tigers and Flames are set to battle. In the 2007 Caribbean Classic, UIC fell to LSU 86-44 in its opening match-up of the tournament. Jessie Miller (2006-10) led the Flames in scoring that game with 12 points.
LAST TIME OUT – VS. DePaul
- The Flames kept within reach Friday night at DePaul (5-8) entering halftime, before faltering in the second half to fall in a 73-56 bout at Wintrust Arena this past Friday.
- Rimmer tallied 11 points and grabbed six rebounds coming off the bench. Senior Makiyah Williams (Chicago, Ill./Trinity/Marquette) also scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds in 23 minutes of play.
- Senior Arin Freeman (Little Rock, Ark./ Little Rock North) collected her third consecutive game in double figures (11 points) in her second start of the season.
FLAMES FACTS
- The Flames have sunk 109 three-pointers, averaging 35.8 % of their makes, ranking them third in the Missouri Valley Conference. On the defensive side, the Flames have held opponents to a fourth-best three-point percentage (30.4%).
- UIC also ranks second in the conference in steals per game (9.71), having collected 68 steals this season. Leading the team this season is graduate student Jaida McCloud (Peoria, Ill./ Richwoods), who has nine steals on the season.
- McCloud is also one of the most effective shooters in the MVC, with the fourth-best field goal percentage (57.7%) in the conference.
