GREENSBORO, N.C. (Dec. 7, 2024) – The UIC swimming and diving program was represented proudly amongst some the top swimmers at the Greensboro Aquatic Center at the two-day meet in the 2024 USA Swimming Open Championships to enter the weekend.
Graduate student
Rafe Dolan Peterson (Austin, Minn./Austin/Green Bay) earned the highest placing at the event, finishing seventh in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 43.65 second. Graduate student
Liam Davis (Naperville, Ill./Plainfield North) earned a ninth-place finish in the 200 butterfly in 1:48.25. Senior
Cory Michalek (Wales, Wis./Kettle Moraine) finished 12
th in the 100 backstroke in a time of 48.26 second. Sophomore
Jack Mills (Toronto, Ontario/Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute) finished 15
th in the 1,650 freestyle in 15:36.03.

"I'm so proud of the way the six guys competed at the US Open. Not only did most of them swim faster than a few weeks ago but to makes finals at a national meet is incredible. We haven't sent swimmers to this meet in five years and it's great to get UIC's name out there!"

The UIC swimming and diving program opens 2025 with a home dual meet against Eastern Illinois on Friday, Jan. 10 at Flames Natatorium. Events are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. (CT) with admission free to the general public.
