CHICAGO (Feb. 10, 2024) – The UIC women's tennis team (2-3) fell 5-2 Saturday to Miami University (4-5) at the XS Tennis Village.
The Flames secured team points behind singles victories from
Agnes Gustafsson (Paris, France Akademi Båstad Gymnasium, Sweden) and
Anaïs Brion (Neuilly Sur Seine, France Texas A&M - Corpus Christi) in Saturday's loss.

"Credit to our opponents from Miami for their competitiveness from start to finish. We weren't able to manage momentum shift this afternoon to our advantage. We will use short-term memory and long-term motivation to move on from this loss and adapt and grow."
MATCH RECAP
- In doubles competition, UIC's No. 3 team of Zara Ryan (Dublin, Ireland/Utah State) and Paula Rodriguez Gregoris (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Canary Islands/International School of Berne) defeated their Miami University counterparts in an exciting match that ended via tiebreaker. The match victory is the second win in a row for the pair.
- In the singles portion of Saturday's match, Brion made quick work of her opponent at No. 6 singles and won in deciding fashion to give UIC its first team point of the afternoon The victory created momentum for the Flames with five singles matches remaining.
- With the team score 2-1, Gustafsson had another strong performance at the No. 1 position, winning in straight sets. The victory gives the senior a team-high four wins in 2024.
- Following Gustafsson's victory, the RedHawks won the final three singles matches to come away with the 5-2 team victory.

UP NEXT
- The Flames are off until Feb. 18 when they travel to South Bend, Ind. to take on Notre Dame.
- The match will start at 3 p.m. from the Courtney Tennis Center.
- Last season the Flames fell 5-2 to the Fighting Irish on the road. It was UIC's first contest against Notre Dame since 2009.
- Notre Dame currently sports a 5-1 record on the season with its only loss a 4-0 defeat at then No. 13 Ohio State.
