2024 Missouri Valley Conference Championship Up Next for Golf

The two-day tournament takes place Sunday and Monday at the Annbriar Golf Course in Waterloo, Ill.

CHICAGO (April 13, 2024) – With strong performances through its first nine competitions, the UIC golf program is looking to win its first conference title in program history, as the Flames are heading to Waterloo, Ill. for the 2024 Missouri Valley Conference Women's Golf Championship.
 
The two-day, 54-hole tournament will take place Sunday and Monday at the Annbriar Country Club. All 12 MVC institutions will compete at this year's championship. 
 
MISSOURI VALLEY CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP INFORMATION
  • The Annbriar Golf Course is a par-72, 6,188-yard layout.
  • Programs will play 36 holes on Day One and 18 holes Day Two. Sunday's first round will start at 8:30 a.m. CT, beginning with a shotgun start, while Monday's final 18 holes will begin with split tees (off No. 1 and No. 10) beginning at 8:30 a.m. CT. The MVC Championship was originally slated to be played over three days, but was changed to a two-day event due to an inclement weather forecast in the area for Tuesday.
  • The Flames enter the 2024 MVC Championship as the third-highest ranked MVC program in the most recent NCAA standings at No. 165-nationally.

LAST TOURNAMENT RECAP
  • UIC recorded its eighth top-ten performance of the season, as the Flames finished tied-10th in the team standing at the Golfweek/AGT Intercollegiate, held at the Caledonia Golf & Fish Club in early April.
  • Senior Megan Tang (Memphis, Tenn./St. Mary's) led the Flames in the individual standings, tying for 14th place in the 104-person field.
  • UIC's 36-hole total of 598 is the Flames' third-lowest 36-hole total in program history the team's lowest 36-hole total during the 2023-24 season.
  • The Flames opened the first round, shooting a team score of 303 (+19). Six UIC golfers shot +8 or better during the opening round. UIC cut eight strokes off its team score during the second round, shooting 295 (+11), while moving up one place in the individual standings.
  • Tang shot the two of the three lowest rounds for the Flames in South Carolina, shooting a +3 (74) and +1 (72) to finished in the top-15 in the individual standings for the sixth time this season
  • After shooting +7 (78) during the opening round, graduate student Dasa Urbankova (Brno, Czech Republic/Menlo College) shot even (71) during the second round to move up 30 spots on the leaderboard.
  • Senior Brooke Beyer (Mesa, Ariz./Desert Ridge) shot consistently between Round One (+4, 75) and Round Two (+5, 76) to finish tied-44th in the individual standings, while senior Grace Szklarek (Granger, Ind./Penn) shot +13 (155) in the team standings to finish tied-68th.
  • Competing as an individual, junior Lia Thomas (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City) shot identical scores of +6 (77) both days to finish tied-62nd, while sophomore Ellie McDonald (Indianapolis, Ind./Heritage Christian) finished in 104th, shooting +45 (187)
2023-24 SEASON SUMMARY
  • The Flames have competed in nine tournaments during the 2023-24 season and have recorded top-three finishes at seven of the nine events.
  • UIC finished as co-champions in the team standings for the first time in the team standings, after tying for first-place March's Nevel Meade Intercollegiate, held at the Nevel Meade Golf Club in Prospect, Ky.
  • Graduate student Dasa Urbankova has a program-record three individual titles in 2023-24, placing first at the Brittany Kelly Classic (Sept. 18-19), the Butler Fall Invitational (Oct. 2-3) and the Nevel Meade Intercollegiate (March 18-19). Urbankova has two second-place finishes and a fourth-place finish this season as well. She is a five-time MVC Golfer of the Week recipient in 2023-24.
  • Senior Megan Tang has two top-three finishes and four top-ten finishes in 2023-24. The MVC named her its Golfer of the Week in March after her second-place finish at the Butler Don Benbow Spring Invitational (March 11-12).
  • Senior Brooke Beyer is the third Flames golfer with multiple top-ten finishes this season (3). She placed fifth at the Chippewa Invitational (Oct. 16-17) and received MVC Golfer of the Week honors after her performance.
