Golf Finishes as Runner-Up at the 2024 Missouri Valley Women’s Golf Championship

Dasa Urbankova finished tied-fifth and Brooke Beyer finished tied-ninth in the individual standings

WATERLOO, Ill. (April 15, 2024) – The UIC golf program concluded its stellar 2023-24 season as the runner-up at the 2024 Missouri Valley Conference Women's Golf Championship, held at the Annbriar Golf Course.
 
The Flames shot +37 (901) as a team to finish in second out of the 12-team field. The second-place finish is UIC's highest finish at a conference championship in program history.
In the individual competition, graduate student Dasa Urbankova (Brno, Czech Republic/Menlo College) finished tied-fifth with a 54-hole score of +4 (220). Senior Brooke Beyer (Mesa, Ariz./Desert Ridge) tied for ninth with a +7 (223), while senior Megan Tang (Memphis, Tenn./St. Mary's) scored a +13 (229) to finish tied-20th. Sophomore Chaewon Jeong (Seoul, South Korea/Laurel Springs School) and senior Grace Szklarek (Granger, Ind./Penn) finished tied-25th and 38th respectively.
 
For her efforts on the course, the MVC named Urbankova to its All-Conference and All-Tournament teams.

  • The Flames shot +13 (301) over the first 18 holes to sit in third-place in the team standings.  
  • Beyer shot six birdies during Sunday's opening round and finished tied-first in the individual standings at -1 (71).
  • Urbankova also shot -1 (71) during the opening round to tie with Beyer for the early lead.


Round Two Recap
  • The Flames jumped one spot in the team standings to second-place after shooting +12 (300). UIC's 36-hole score of +25 (601) was seven strokes behind Illinois State in the team standings.
  • Urbankova finished the second round tied for third in the team standings with a +3 (147), while Beyer finished one stroke behind at +4 (148) to tie for sixth.
  • Tang jumped 17 spots to tie for 18th in the individual standings at +8 (152). Her second round score of 73 was UIC's lowest score for the second round.
  • Jeong shot +2 (74) to shoot up 19 spots on the leaderboard to tie for 21st (+10, 154), while Szklarek moved up seven spots to tie for 40th (+15, 159) after shooting +6 (78).


Round Three Recap
  • The Flames shot +12 (300) for the second round in a row Monday afternoon to clinch the second-place finish in the team standings.
  • Urbankova shot +1 (73) during Monday's round to secure a top-five finish.
  • Beyer shot +3 (75) to clinch a top-ten finish in the individual standings, while Tang and Jeong both hit +5 (77) over Monday's round.
  • Szklarek started Monday's final round with four birdies over the first six holes and finished the final round at +3 (75). The senior's score of 75 was her lowest round of the tournament. 


News and Notes
  • Sunday's Round Two team score of 300 and Round One team score of 301 are the eighth and ninth-lowest rounds for the program this season.
  • UIC's second-place finish is nine spots higher than its finish last season at the MVC Championship and its best conference championship finish since placing fourth at the 2021 Horizon League Championship. The Flames also finished fourth in 2015 and 2018.
  • With 25 rounds played this season, Beyer, Szklarek and Urbankova broke the program record for most rounds played in a season.
  • The Flames hit 34 birdies over the 54-hole tournament. UIC made 15 birdies during Sunday's first round. 
  • This Urbankova's first MVC All-Conference selection and second MVC All-Tournament Team selection at UIC.
  • Urbankova's 54-hole score of 220 is the 11th-lowest in UIC's history.
  • UIC's 54-hole score of 901 is the fifth-lowest in program history and third-lowest this season.
