CHICAGO (April 10, 2024) – The UIC men's and women's outdoor track and field teams will head south on Saturday to compete in Illinois' Gary Wieneke Memorial at Demirjian Park in Champaign, Ill. It's the first of two meets hosted by the Fighting Illini that the Flames will participate in during the 2024 outdoor season.
 
Along with UIC, some other teams competing in the annual meet include Northwestern, DePaul, Purdue, Milwaukee, Eastern Illinois and SEMO. The Flames will also have a chance to measure their progress against Missouri Valley Conference members Illinois State, Indiana State and Bradley in preparation for the MVC Championships next month.

LAST TIME OUT
UIC finished strong at the Chicagoland Championships last weekend, with the men claiming a top-10 finish as a team. Senior Haley Dahl (Belvidere, lll./Belvidere North) took home gold for her performance in the 400-meter hurdles, while the UIC men's relay team, made up of freshman Amare Harris (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington), junior Max Rivera (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley), senior Sacrad Michelin (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) and junior Paul Sackman (Lincolnwood, Ill./Niles West), won the 4 x 100-meter event.
 
FLAMES TO WATCH
Women

• Senior Olivia Dumas (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb), who is second in program history in the 100-meter dash (12.27) and third all-time in the 200 meters (24.54), is slated to compete in both events on Saturday.
• Dahl will compete in the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles this weekend. She sits fifth (15.07) and third (1:03.93), respectively, in the UIC record book for those events.
• Praise Oyebanji (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) will represent the Flames in the 800-meter run. The freshman currently ranks fifth in program history at that distance.
• Also in the middle distances, senior Daniela Martinez (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech) will race in the 1,500 meters, an event in which she is eighth (4:42.87) in Flames history.

Men

• Rivera ranks among the top five in the program's record book in both the 100-meter dash (fourth; 10.64) and 200-meter dash (fifth; 21.76), and will compete in both races on Saturday.
• Michelin is also expected to run the 200 meters on Saturday. The senior is fourth in UIC history for the event (21.75).
• Sophomore Angel Solis (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) will run in the 800 meters on Saturday, while classmate Daniel Chavez (Berwyn, Ill./Morton) will represent the Flames in the 1,500 meters
