Women’s Basketball Drop Sunday Road Matinee Match-Up at Murray State

The Flames slide to 1-4 against the Missouri Valley Conference opponents.

MURRAY, Ky. (Jan. 12, 2025) – The UIC women's basketball program (4-10, 1-4 MVC) went toe-to-toe with the top offensive in the Missouri Valley Conference in Murray State (10-4, 4-1 MVC) on the road Sunday afternoon, falling short in a 67-60 bout.

The Flames were led in scoring by senior Krystyna Ellew (Chicago, Ill./ Taft/ Wisconsin), who sank three three-pointers enroute to a 13-point performance off the bench. Graduate student Makiyah Williams (Chicago, Ill./Trinity/Marquette) collected 11 points and led the team with nine rebounds. Senior Ky Dempsey-Toney (Franklin, N.J./Franklin) provided key bench minutes for the Flames, collecting 10 points, seven rebounds and a pair of blocks.

COMMENT FROM HEAD COACH ASHLEEN BRACEY

"It was a tough battle here at Murray tonight. It was a great time we played against, such a high powered offense scoring upward to the 90's per game and when you hold them to 67 points, I think that's the best defensive effort on them all year, and the lowest point total they ever scored, but you have to find a way to win. Too many turnovers, we had 20 turnovers against their pressure. I think we need to clean up our shot selection. When you hold them to 67 points, you'd expect to be able to beat them. Ending a really really tough four game road swing, we are very excited to get back home to compete against Bradley."
