CHICAGOÂ
(Jan. 19, 2025) – Senior forward
Ky Dempsey-Toney (Franklin, N.J./Franklin) came off the bench to post team highs of 16 points, seven rebounds and two blocks, but it wasn't quite enough for UIC to overcome a hot-shooting Illinois State squad, falling to the Redbirds, 75-66 on Sunday afternoon at Credit Union 1 Arena.
Senior guard
Arin Freeman (Little Rock, Ark./North Little Rock/Coastal Carolina) added 14 points, four assists and three steals, while senior guard/forward
Makiyah Williams (Chicago, Ill./Trinity/Marquette) contributed 12 points. The Flames (5-11, 2-5 MVC) got as close as seven points three times in the final minute, but the Redbirds (11-7, 5-2), who shot 54 percent from the field during Sunday's matinee, made enough foul shots down the stretch to hold off UIC's late comeback.
