Game Recap: Softball |

Flames Split Games in Day Two of Silicon Valley Classic I

Saturday’s softball highlighted by another Alyssa MacIntosh complete game shutout and a great showing at the plate from Dee Dee Caskey.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (Feb. 15, 2025) – The UIC softball team (4-5) finished an action-packed day of softball in Northern California, beating Colorado State (4-4) in a 3-0 shutout before going toe-to-toe in a 24-hit show down against Santa Clara (5-3), falling short in a 12-10 bout in the second day of the Silicon Valley Classic I.

In game one against the Rams, the Flames were once again led by redshirt-senior Alyssa McIntosh (Lancaster, Calif./Lancaster) with her second consecutive complete-game shutout. She allowed only four hits and struck out four, while allowing only one walk. Senior Jojo Santiago's (Channahon, Ill./ Joliet Catholic Academy) crushed a two-RBI double, finishing the game going one-for-three. Freshman Brianna Motto (Corona, Calif./Norco) collected her first multi-hit game of her young collegiate career, going two-for-three with a double and scoring twice for the Flames. Fellow freshman Nina Pesare (Lisle, Ill./ Benet Academy) also collected a pair of hits in the win.

"It was a great win over Colorado State in game one. I loved the grit! I also enjoyed the fight of this team in game two. We had a lot of growth today!"

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
  • Caskey's five-for-five performance against Santa Clara ties a program record for most hits in a game, tying five other players in program history reaching this mark. Last player to do so was Lexi Watts (2016-19) with a 5-for-5 game in UIC's 11-1 victory against Samford on Feb. 9, 2018.
  • After back-to-back complete game shutouts, McIntosh has now thrown six complete games in her career at UIC and is tied for second with two complete games in the entire Missouri Valley Conference.
  • Fonoti's three-for-four showing against Santa Clara is her first multi-hit performance of her career. Now with four hits in just the first nine games of the season, Fonoti already has hit a season-high in hits in her second season at UIC.
