Softball Drops Two on Day Two of Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic

Flames Fall to Host #12 Texas Tech 15-6 and Detroit Mercy 3-2

LUBBOCK, Texas (February 22, 2025) – On the second day of the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic, the Flames began action against the host, #12 Texas Tech. After coming out swinging, the Red Raiders (11-3) secured a 15-6 win over the Flames (4-8) in five innings. Then, under the lights, the Flames took on Detroit Mercy. Pushing the game into extra innings, the Flames (4-9) fell just short to the Titans (1-8) by a final score of 3-2 in eight innings.  

GAME ONE RECAP 

The #12 Red Raiders came out hot and never looked back, picking up runs in each inning of action. Siena Stickney (Mission Viejo, Caif./Capo Valley) put the Flames on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning with a two RBI double to left field. Jojo Santiago (Channahon, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) followed with a single to first base, scoring Brianna Motto (Corona, Calif./Norco). The Flames would bring in two more runs when Cameran Rios (Effingham, Ill./St. Anthony) reached on a Red Raiders error. In the top of the fifth, Stickney reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Sequoia Sanchez (Corona, Calif./Roosevelt).  

Stickney went 2-for-3 with three RBI's and one run.

GAME TWO RECAP 

After the Titans took a 2-0 lead following runs in the second and third inning, the Flames turned action around, sending the game into extra innings. Hailey Cowing (Torrance, Calif./West Torrance) brought in the first run with a RBI single to right field in the bottom of the sixth, making it a one run game. With the game on the line in the bottom of the seventh, Santiago brought in the tying run with a single, scoring Stickney. It would be the Titans who took advantage of the extra inning as they scored the winning run in the top of the eighth to defeat the Flames 3-2.  

Cowing went 2-for-3 with a RBI.
