LUBBOCK, Texas (February 23, 2025) – On the final day of the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic, the UIC softball team took the field to take on the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). The morning contest saw the Flames (4-10) fall to the Miners (9-3) 9-0 in five innings.

After a scoreless first inning between the Flames and Miners, the Miners found their groove, picking up at least one run in each of the remaining innings. For the Flames, Hailey Cowing (Torrance, Calif./West Torrance), Atina'eleila Fonoti (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani), Nina Pesare (Lisle, Ill./Benet Academy), and Brianna Motto (Corona, Calif./Norco) all picked up one hit through the game.

The Flames now turn their focus towards the EKU Colonel Classic hosted by Eastern Kentucky University. The tournament will take place from February 28-March 2 in Richmond, Ky. inside Gertrude Hood Stadium.
