SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (March 13th, 2025) – Following a 23-game non-conference schedule to begin the 2025 season, the UIC softball team hit the field in Springfield, Mo., to take on the Missouri State Bears and begin Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) play. With both teams searching for wins to break losing streaks, the Bears (2-19, 1-0 MVC) began the three-game series with a 4-3 victory over the Flames (4-19, 0-1 MVC)
The Flames opened the contest with one run in the top of the first off a Sequoia Sanchez (Corona, Calif. / Roosevelt) single before the Bears plated two to take the early lead. Sanchez then tied the game in the top of the third when a sac fly brought in Dee Dee Caskey (Indianapolis, Ind. / Bishop Chatard) to tie the game at 2-2. In the sixth inning, Sanchez scored, giving the Flames a 3-2 lead. The lead didn't last long as the Bears plated two in the bottom of the inning, taking a one-run lead. In the final inning, the Flames could not get any action going, falling to the Bears 4-3 in their conference opener.
