SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (March 15th, 2025) – In their series finale, the UIC softball team and the Missouri State Bears closed out the opening weekend of Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) play with an 11:00 AM game. Following a scoreless first inning, the game favored the hosts as the Bears (4-19, 3-0) defeated the Flames (4-22, 0-3) 15-1in five innings.
Hailey Cowing (Torrance, Calif. / West Torrance) and Sequoia Sanchez (Corona, Calif. / Roosevelt) collected hits in the first inning, but the inning came and went with the score tied 0-0. In the top of the second, the Flames collected a trio of hits from Siena Stickney (Mission Viejo, Calif. / Capo Valley), Leila Dixon (Dublin, Calif. / Moreau Catholic), and Jojo Santiago (Channahon, Ill. / Joliet Catholic Academy), but could not bring in a run. In the bottom of the second inning, the Bears exploded into the lead with seven runs. The Bears continued their momentum into the third inning, adding on five more runs to take a 12-0 lead. In the top of the third, the Flames recorded their lone run of the game when Dixon reached home off a Dee Dee Caskey (Indianapolis, Ind. / Bishop Chatard) double. The Bears would go on to add three more runs before the end of the game, defeating the Flames 15-1.
