RICHMOND, Kentucky (March 2, 2025) – After being delayed due to cold weather, the UIC softball team closed out action at the EKU Colonel Classic against the University of Dayton Flyers. Following three scoreless innings with a hit coming from both sides, the Flyers jumped out ahead with three runs in the fourth inning. In the end, the Flames (4-15) fell to the Flyers (8-5) 4-1.
RECAP
Through the first three innings, the Flames and Flyers would pick up one hit each, with the Flames coming in the bottom of the first when Jojo Santiago (Channahon, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) singled to center field. The Flyers broke the scoreless drought in the top of the fourth with three runs before adding on one more in the top of the fifth to take a 4-0 lead. In the bottom of the sixth, Hailey Cowing (Torrance, Calif./West Torrance) put the Flames on the board with a single to center field, bringing in Dee Dee Caskey (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) to make the score 4-1. As the seventh inning came and went, the Flames fell to the Flyers 4-1.
