Chicago, Ill. – Back on Flames Field to close out the series, the UIC softball team and University of Northern Iowa (UNI) Panthers went to battle in Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) action. A comeback in the fourth inning gave the Flames their first lead for the weekend, but it wouldn't be enough as the Panthers bounced back on top and closed out the game with a 16-4 victory.
UNI wasted no time getting on the board, scoring a run in the first inning to take the early lead. The visitors extended their lead in the second inning by two runs, taking a 3-0 lead. The Flames tied the game off a Dee Dee Caskey bases-clearing three RBI double in the bottom of the third before taking the lead off a Larissa Ortiz RBI single up the middle, scoring Caskey and giving the Flames a 4-3 lead. The Panthers then tied the game in the top of the fourth before taking a two-run, 6-4 lead in the top of the fifth. The Panthers remained on top, scoring more runs, including an eight-run seventh inning, defeating the Flames 16-4.
