CHICAGO – Despite troubling weather conditions, including 25 MPH winds, the UIC men's and women's distance teams saw several members run new personal best times at the Distance Carnival hosted by Washington University St. Louis on Thursday, Mar. 27 and Friday, Mar. 28. Over 1100 athletes from 30 different schools competed at the event.
MEN
- Daniel Chavez finished 30th overall in a time of 14:32.22 in the 5000m event, the fourth fastest time in school history.
- Luke Malone finished the 5000m in 14:39.64 which placed 38th. The time was the seventh fastest in UIC history.
- Zachary Close placed 42nd in the 5000m, setting a new school record for freshman with a time of 14:41.77.
WOMEN
COACH'S COMMENTS
"Despite the tough weather conditions, our distance program still managed to add several new additions to our Top 10 All-Time Lists and personal best performances this weekend." said head coach
Paul Zavala. "Overall this was a great start to our Outdoor Season and excited to have our entire program compete next weekend at the Chicagoland Championships."
