Chicago – UIC senior Mayu Ushio has been named Missouri Valley Conference Co-Singles Player of the Week following another impressive weekend, adding two more victories at the No. 1 singles position to her growing list of accomplishments.
Ushio kicked things off with a commanding 6–3, 6–2 win on the road against Bradley's Anna Belogliadova on Friday. She returned home Sunday and delivered again, battling through a tight second set to earn a 6–1, 7–6 win over Illinois State's Lana Caculovic, helping the Flames secure back-to-back team victories.
With those wins, Ushio has now won 9 consecutive singles matches and remains unbeaten in her last 10 matches, with nine victories and one match left unfinished. Her consistency and elite level of play have made her a cornerstone of UIC's success this spring.
