Chicago, Ill. – Back out at Flames Field for their second game of a three-game Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) series, the UIC softball team and the Murray State University Racers were off to a slow start before the bats started to warm up in the fourth inning. As the Racers (13-21, 4-10) took the lead in the fourth, they never looked back and led the rest of the way, defeating the Flames (4-32, 0-12) 6-3.
RECAP
It was a slow start as neither team recorded a run through the first three innings, and only the Racers collected hits. In the fourth inning, momentum swung in favor of the Racers, who brought in four runs to take the lead. Emma Gumont picked up the Flames' first hit of the game in the bottom of the fourth with a single to center field. Following a scoreless fifth inning, action picked back up in the sixth. The Racers added two runs in the top of the inning, including a home run, taking a 6-0 lead. In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Flames got on the board when Gumont recorded her first career home run as a Flame as she smashed the ball to left field, bringing in three runs to cut the Racers lead in half. The score remained the same after the seventh inning as the Racers claimed their second win of the weekend.
