Chicago, Ill. – For their final Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) series of the year before the postseason, the UIC softball team welcomed the Bradley University Braves to Flames Field for game one of a three-game series on Friday, May 2nd. The evening contest saw the Flames (8-44, 4-21 MVC) put runners on base and in scoring position, but ultimately fell short to the Braves (23-29, 12-13 MVC) by a final score of 2-0
RECAP
Jasmine Whorley and the Flames' defense held strong through the first three innings, keeping the Braves hitless. On the offensive side, Hailey Cowing and Sequoia Sanchez looked to ignite the Flames' offense, collecting the team's first two hits in the first and second innings, respectively. In the fourth inning, the Braves collected their first hit and run in the fourth inning, taking a 1-0 lead. Emma Gumont led off the bottom of the inning with a single to right field before reaching second on a Jojo Santiago Walk, but the Flames were unable to bring in the runner before the end of the inning. In the top of the sixth inning, Nina Pesare made an impressive acrobatic catch to end the inning. Bottom of the sixth inning saw the Flames have a runner in scoring position, with Santiago on third, but with two outs already on the board, Santiago and the others were left on base after a pop-up to third. The top of the seventh inning saw the Braves add an insurance run as they took a 2-0 lead, giving them the ultimate victory.
