Box Score DES MOINES, Iowa – In the opening round of the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) softball championships, the No. 12 UIC softball team took on the No. 5 Missouri State University Bears. In game two of the day, the Flames (9-46, 5-22 MVC) and Bears (20-32, 16-11 MVC) took Buel Field for their fourth meeting of the season. The Flames wasted no time as they put up a three-run inning in the first to take the early lead. The Flames remained ahead until the sixth inning when the Bears completed a late comeback as they took a 7-3 lead. In the end, the Flames were unable to stage a comeback of their own as they fell 7-3 to the Bears, ending their 2025 season campaign.
RECAP
Coming out hot, the Flames jumped ahead early with a three-run inning to lead the Bears. Nina Pesare began the game with a lead-off bunt before advancing to third on a Hailey Cowing double to right center field. Pesare and Cowing went on to score off an Emma Gumont double to right field. After picking up an out on a Siena Stickney sacrifice, Sequoia Sanchez would hit an RBI ground out, scoring Gumont and giving the Flames a 3-0 lead. Action would then settle down between the two sides, with the Flames and Bears both collecting two hits through the second and third innings. In the fourth inning, the Bears got on the scoreboard with two runs. They opened the bottom half of the inning with a lead-off solo home run to left field before adding a second run off an RBI double to left center field. At the end of the fourth inning, the Flames held a one-run, 3-2 lead. The fifth inning came and went before the game turned in favor of the Bears in the sixth. A five-run, four-hit sixth inning by the Bears put them ahead 7-3, ultimately giving them the victory and ending the Flames' 2025 season.
