Volleyball Opens 2025 Season at UNF’s Sunshine Tournament

Flames slated to face Florida State, Georgia Southern and UNF.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The UIC volleyball team embarks on the 2025 season beginning this Friday, as they compete in UNF's Sunshine Tournament over the weekend at the UNF Arena.

SCOUTING FLORIDA STATE
  • This will be the first meeting in 28 years the Flames face off against the Seminoles. This will be the second meeting against one another, with Florida State having won in the previous meeting back on Oct. 26, 1987.
  • After posting a 21-10 record and making it to the NCAA Tournament in 2024, the Seminoles aim for a strong 2025, receiving 33 votes for the NCAA Top 25 rankings to begin the season.
  • The Flames aim for their first win against an Atlantic Coast Conference opponent since a 3-2 victory over NC State in Sept. 1999.
 SCOUTING GEORGIA SOUTHERN
  • Saturday's match-up will be the first time that UIC and Georgia Southern will compete.
  • The Eagles are coming off a 22-7 campaign in 2024, making it to the second round of the 2024 National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC).
SCOUTING UNF
  • This is the second meeting between two programs and the first time competing since Sept. 2010.  The Flames secured a 3-1 victory over the Ospreys at the UNF Arena.
  • The Ospreys finished 2024 with a 13-19 overall record, finishing 9-7 against Atlantic Sun Conference opponents.
FLAMES FINISH SECOND (AGAIN) IN MVC PRESEASON POLL
  • The Flames finished second in the Missouri Valley Conference's preseason poll, the conference announced Monday morning. UIC earned 107 points in the poll, collecting one first-place vote.
  • Senior Cleo Lorenzo was also named to the Preseason All-MVC Team on Monday. The outside hitter is coming off a strong showing in 2024, collecting a team-leading 296 kills, averaging 2.49 kills per set. She also had the second-most in digs (277) and third-most in service aces (23).
  • Lorenzo played in all 33 matches last season, securing double-digit kills and digs across seven different matches. Her best showing was against Murray State on Oct. 19, collecting 15 kills and 16 digs in
 
UIC students, staff and youths in eighth grade and under are admitted to all home volleyball matches free of charge, while adults and youths in ninth grade and above can purchase tickets for $5 each at the gate three entrance of Credit Union 1 Arena on match night. In addition, fans can buy the new Flames Fast Pass, a one-time $50 purchase that will provide the bearer with access to all UIC home athletics events (except men's and women's basketball) during the 2025-26 academic year.
