EVANSTON, Ill. – The UIC baseball team (4-10-1, 0-0 MVC) went up against Big Ten opponent Northwestern (6-7-1, 0-0 B1G) and tied 3-3 on Tuesday evening. The game was called after the ninth inning due to darkness. This is the first game to end in a tie for the Flames since the 2015 season and the second tie in all-time series against Northwestern.
Northwestern got on the board early in the first inning grabbing a 1-0 lead. The Wildcats would add another run in the fourth before
Jake Busson got the Flames on the board in the top of the fifth with an RBI single. Northwestern added a solo home run to extend their lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh. The Flames answered in the top of the eighth when
Colin Husko scored on a wild pitch, bringing the score to 3-2.
Alexander Wright hit a leadoff double to start the ninth and scored on a sacrifice bunt from
Gavin Acosta to even the score at 3-3.
Zach Millsap came in the bottom of the ninth inning, recording three outs, two via strikeout to post a scoreless final frame. The game concluded in a tie following the ninth inning.
Flames pitching was phenomenal, with six pitchers combining to tally 14 total strikeouts across nine innings. Starter
Aidan Terronez and reliever
Mark Eddie led the way with four strikeouts a piece.
