Baseball Opens Conference Play at Home

The Flames host Southern Illinois to begin Missouri Valley Conference play.

CHICAGO – The UIC baseball team (4-13-1, 0-0 MVC) starts Missouri Valley Conference play this weekend, hosting Southern Illinois (8-11, 0-0 MVC) for a weekend series at Curtis Granderson Stadium. The series is set to begin Friday, with first pitch scheduled for 4:05 p.m. (CT). The second and third games will be streamed on ESPN+ with live stats available at UICFlames.com.

SCOUTING SOUTHERN ILLINOIS
  • This series will be the seventh-ninth meeting between the Flames and Salukis. The all-time series is tied at three games a piece.
  • Southern Illinois lost its most recent game, falling to UT Martin 7-6 Wednesday night.
  • Graduate student Cecil Lofton leads the Salukis in home runs (four) and runs batted in (14).
  • Redshirt Junior Andrew Evans leads the Salukis qualified pitching staff in earned run average (2.48) and strikeouts (27) in 29 innings pitched.
UNC GREENSBORO RECAP
  • The Flames dropped a three game series against UNC Greensboro this past weekend.
  • Junior Jake Busson had six hits in 10 at-bats with one home run driving in five runs in series, earning Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week for his efforts.
  • Junior Vidal Colon made a diving catch in Sunday's game that placed him third in the ESPN SportsCenter Top-10.
  • Graduate student Mark Eddie appeared in one game, pitching 2.0 innings, allowing zero runs and striking out three batters.
