NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The UIC baseball team (4-16-1, 2-2 MVC) fell in the opening game of its three-game series with Belmont (9-17, 1-3 MVC) by a score of 4-3. Game two of the series will take place tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. (CT).
The Flames were able to strike first, plating two in the top of the second via a
Sean Cody double. Belmont would then go on to score the next four, adding a run in the fifth and three in the seventh, to take a 4-2 lead.
Vidal Colon got the Flames back in the score column in the top of the eighth with a sacrifice fly, scoring
Ashton Kampa. UIC was unable to push across another run in the ninth, falling short by a final score of 4-3.
Flames starting pitcher
Mason Lei is credited with the loss after going seven innings, striking out seven and allowing four earned runs.
