Baseball Prepares for Conference Clash

The Flames host Valparaiso with first pitch against the Beacons scheduled for 6:05 p.m. (CT) Friday night.

CHICAGO – The UIC baseball team (12-21-1, 7-5 MVC) will take on conference opponent Valparaiso (9-23, 2-7 MVC) at Curtis Granderson stadium for a weekend series. The Flames enter the weekend on a four game conference win streak after sweeping defending champion Murray State last weekend. The series is set to begin Friday, with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m. (CT). The series will be streamed on ESPN+. Live stats are available at UICFlames.com.

SCOUTING VALPARAISO
  • This series will be the 140th-142nd meeting between the Flames and Beacons. UIC leads the all-time series 79-60.
  • Valparaiso lost its most recent game against Notre Dame 6-1 Tuesday afternoon.
  • Freshman Cal Schembra leads the Beacons in extra-base hits (14), runs batted in (26), hits (32) and stolen bases (eight).
  • Redshirt senior Connor Lockwood leads the Beacons pitching staff in wins (three), strikeouts (39), earned run average (3.59) and innings pitched (57.2). Lockwood's ERA ranks fourth in the MVC.
NORTHWESTERN RECAP
  • The Flames lost against Northwestern on Tuesday night by a score of 12-11, with the Flames going 0-2-1 against the Wildcats this season.
  • Four Flames hit a home run in the game with Ashton Kampa, Thomas Curry, Alexander Wright and James Hackett going yard. Hackett's home run was a grand slam coming in the first inning.
  • Andrew Pyszka also drove in a run, coming via a bases loaded walk.
  • Charlie Taczy pitched one inning in relief, striking out two allowing no runs.
UIC CAREERS IN SPORTS DAY
 
  • Prior to UIC's Kids Day Game on April 24, the Flames will host a Career Day event inside the Flames Athletic Center from 9–11 a.m.
  • Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from UIC Athletics staff about their roles and the various career paths available in sports.
