Track and Field Set to Compete at MVC Outdoor Track & Field Championships

Flames aim to continue upward trajectory from record-setting outdoor campaign

CHICAGO – The UIC track and field program heads to Terre Haute, Ind., this weekend for the 2026 Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Hosted by Indiana State University, the two-day meet will take place Saturday and Sunday at the Gibson Track & Field Complex.

The Flames enter the postseason with significant momentum, headlined by several school record holders and all-time top performers looking to make their mark on the conference stage.

Flames to Watch

Men's Team

The men's side is bolstered by elite distance talent and rising sprinters:

  • Daniel Chavez (5000m): The current UIC school record holder in the event looks to lead the pack in a highly competitive distance field.

  • Theodore Cunningham (1500m): Another record holder for the Flames, Cunningham aims to translate his record-breaking season into a podium finish.

  • Amare Harris (100m): Currently ranked No. 4 all-time in UIC history, Harris provides a major scoring threat in the short sprints.

Women's Team

The women's squad features a powerful mix of middle-distance and sprint expertise:

  • Praise Oyebanji (800m): The school record holder leads a deep 800m group for UIC.

  • Korima Gonzalez (800m): Sitting at No. 5 all-time for the Flames, Gonzalez joins Oyebanji to form a formidable duo in the half-mile.

  • Jorie Irving (200m): Ranking No. 3 all-time at UIC, Irving is primed for a breakout performance in the sprints.
