DeKalb, Ill. - Halloween was all tricks and no treat for the UIC volleyball team Tuesday night as Northern Illinois cruised past the Flames 15-4, 15-7, 15-6 at Chick Evans Field House.

"The out hit us. They out set us. They out served us. They out dug us. They out blocked us," commented UIC head coach Don August after the match. "In a nutshell, you can tell what I thought of our performance. We never gave ourselves a chance to compete."

The Flames, who played without injured setter Erica Anderson for the second-straight match, fell to 15-11 on the season with the loss while the Huskies improved to 20-6 as they rebounded from a loss last Saturday to Western Michigan.

NIU dominated the match from the start as they jumped out to leads of 7-0 and 11-2 in game one, before closing out the frame 15-4. The Flames didn't help their own cause much in game one as they committed seven attack errors and hit just .029 in the set.

Things didn't get any better for UIC in the next two games as Northern Illinois surged ahead 9-2 in game two en route to a 15-7 triumph, then saw the Huskies stake an 11-2 advantage in the third game before they closed out the match 15-6.

Sophomore Tenisha Wilkins paced NIU as she finished with a match-high 10 kills and nine digs.

Freshman Teaha Shepperd was one of the few bright spots for UIC, totaling eight of the Flames' 26 kills in the match while also adding 11 digs.

August's crew is back in action on Friday, November 3, as they take on MCC leader and cross-town rival Loyola at the Ramblers' Alumni Gym at 7 p.m.
