Peoria, Ill. - After exploding for 68 hits in its four games with Wright State over the weekend, the UIC baseball team could have used a few of those hits Tuesday evening as it managed just six hits and one run in a 6-1 loss at Bradley.
The Braves took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second and added three more runs in the fourth for a 5-0 lead.
The Flames finally got their offense going in the top of the fifth as Weber Bowen registered UIC's first hit of the game, a bloop single down the left field line. After Curtis Granderson flew out to left field, Jason Hughes and J.P. Moran tallied back-to-back singles to load up the bases. Bogdan Gryglak's single up the middle scored one run for UIC, but John Rosner grounded into a double play to end the Flames' rally.
A solo home run by Bradley's Brian Brown in the sixth rounded out the Braves scoring and gave the home team its 14th win of the year. UIC dropped to 14-18 overall.
Gene Rausch was handed his second loss of the year as he went four innings and gave up seven hits, three earned runs and five walks while fanning a pair of batters. Eric Szalo and Steve Carlson also worked in relief for the Flames.
UIC, 3-1 in MCC play, returns to conference action this weekend as it travels to Cleveland to take on the Cleveland State Vikings in a four-game series starting Friday afternoon at 5:00 p.m.
