CHICAGO – For the seventh consecutive year in a row, the UIC baseball team was among the 800 college and high school programs announced to have received the 2025-26 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award, presented by Sports Attack.

"I think this award tells you the type of student-athletes we are bringing in here at UIC," head coach Sean McDermott said. "They commit to being great in the classroom, on the field and socially. UIC isn't just a baseball school, it's a high academic institution. You get a world class degree, and we have student-athletes that accept that challenge. I am very proud of our guys in what we do on the field and in the classroom."

For a program to receive this award, the team must have a minimum team GPA of a 3.0 on a 4.0 GPA scale. After accomplishing a team-best 3.45 Spring GPA, the best GPA by the program in a semester in over 15 years, the Flames met the yearly GPA requirement, finishing with a 3.38 GPA for the entire 2025-26 academic year.

UIC was one of seven teams from the Missouri Valley Conference to have earned this year's Team Academic Excellence Award.
