Milwaukee, Wis. - The UIC baseball team had their bats go cold as they managed just five hits in a 4-2 defeat at the hands of the UW-Milwaukee Panthers Friday night in Midwestern Collegiate Conference action.
UIC (20-21, 7-4 MCC) starter Brad Mears was just as impressive as UWM starter Quintin Oldenburg as he held the Panthers to just five hits with eight strikeouts, but UW-Milwaukee took advantage of a pair of walks, two hit batters and a Flames' error to pick up the win.
The Panthers (17-18, 5-2 MCC) plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the first for a quick 2-0 lead as a throwing error to second by Mears allowed one run to score and then a single by Todd Ludwig scored one more.
UIC tied it up in the top of the third as Kevin Nelson, who drew a walk, and Joe Schicker, who reached on a fielder's choice, scored on a single by John Rosner and a fielding error by UWM first baseman Eric Goerdt.
UW-Milwaukee reclaimed the lead in the fifth as it scored one and then added an insurance run in the sixth on a solo home run by Brett Huebner.
The Flames left seven runners on base in the game, including a runner on third three times. Weber Bowen tallied two of UIC's five hits with a single and a double while Sean McNichols and Curtis Granderson each added doubles.
