Chicago, Ill. - UIC senior Melea Clark was honored for her achievement during the 2000-01 women's basketball season on Wednesday night as she was named to the All-Midwestern Collegiate Conference Second Team at the annual league awards banquet.

Besides leading the team in scoring, steals and assists this season, Clark also finished the regular season in the top 10 in the MCC in each of these categories. The Columbus, Ohio, native ranked third in the league in scoring (15.2 ppg), second in steals (2.2 spg) and was ninth in the conference in assists (3.0 apg).

Clark was one of two UIC players to earn MCC Player of the Week recognition this season. She took home the award after closing out the 2000 calendar year with a career-high 29 points, seven assists and five steals at Troy State on Dec. 28, before tallying 20 points, a season-high seven rebounds and seven assists versus Ball State on Dec. 30.

Joining Clark on the All-MCC Second Team were Shari Hill of Detroit, Tracy Hoffmann of Loyola, Kelly Luhn from Butler and Amanda Leonhard representing UW-Green Bay.

The All-MCC First Team consisted of Mahogany Green (Cleveland State), Michelle James (Detroit), Reggen Stewart (Wright State), Mandy Stowe (UW-Green Bay) and Jessica Wilhite (UW-Milwaukee).

Stowe, a junior transfer from Michigan, also earned a spot on the All-MCC Newcomer Team, joining Iesha Gray (Wright State), Randee Henry (Detroit), Abby Scharlow (Cleveland State), and Maria Viall (UW-Milwaukee).

The honors just kept on coming for Stowe, who led the Phoenix to a share of the regular-season title while averaging 14.4 ppg and shooting 58% from the field, as she also was named the MCC's Newcomer of the Year and the 2000-01 MCC Oldsmobile Player of the Year.

UW-Milwaukee head coach Sandy Botham, who guided the Panthers to a share of the regular-season crown, was named 2000-01 MCC Coach of the Year.
