March 9, 2002

Box Score

Tampa, Fla. - The UIC softball team split for the second consecutive day at the 2002 Speedline Invitational, opening with a 7-4 triumph over Georgia Southern before getting shutout by Penn State, 7-0.

In the first game, sophomore Alycia Creese (8-2) picked up her team-best eighth win of the season, getting plenty of offensive support.

Freshman Cameron Astiazaran got the Flames going with a two-run home run in the first inning. It was the rookie's first career homer. Senior Amber Stachura would then help UIC finish things off as she went 2-for-3 at the plate on the day with three RBI.

In the nightcap, the Flames were shutout for the first time this season as the Nittany Lions held the potent UIC offense to just two hits.

Sophomore Alison Aguilar was pegged with the loss, dropping her to 6-4 on the year.

The Flames, who are now 14-7 this season, will wrap up pool play on Saturday morning as they take on Western Michigan.
