Stachura Named Horizon League Softball Player Of The Week

Chicago, Ill. -UIC senior outfielder Amber Stachura (Morton, Ill./Morton) was named Horizon League Softball Player of the Week, it was announced earlier today.

Stachura played a key role in guiding the Flames to seven-straight wins last week, batting .524 (11-for-21) with three doubles, three home runs and 11 RBI.

The senior opened the week with a 5-for-6 outing, inclduing a homer and five RBI, in a pair of wins at Cleveland State on April 15. She then recorded a key two-run single in the sweep of Purdue on April 16 and launched a solo blast in a 2-1 victory over visiting Wisconsin on April 18. Stachura then capped the week with a solid outing versus Detroit, which included her career-best 11th home run of the season.

This is the second time in her career Stachura has taken home player of the week honors, earning it on April 3, 2001.

Stachura and the Flames, who extended their season-best winning streak to nine games on Monday versus Wright State, will take their show on the road on Wednesday, April 24, as they travel to Peoria, Ill., to take on Bradley in a doubleheader at 3:00 p.m.
