Chicago, Ill. - Sophomore Alison Aguilar was named Horizon League Pitcher of the Week earlier this morning after helping guide the UIC softball team to a share of the regular-season league title and the top-seed in this weekend's postseason tournament.
In a pivotal match-up between two of the league's top pitchers on Saturday, Aguilar out-dueled Sarah Smith of Loyola, allowing just one run while striking out eight in a 6-1 Flames triumph.
She then remained perfect in the circle in Horizon League play on Saturday, tossing a complete game, three-hit shutout at UW-Green Bay. Aguilar, who is now 19-9 this season, finished the year 7-0 versus league foes with a 0.78 ERA.
Earlier in the week, Aguilar was one strike away from her third career no-hitter, settling for a one-hit shutout in a 1-0 triumph at Valparaiso on Tuesday.
This is the second time Aguilar has taken home pitcher of the week accolades this season, also claiming the award on March 18.
UIC will be back in action on Thursday as they open the Horizon League Championship versus #8 Youngstown State at 8:00 a.m. CDT, in Dayton, Ohio.
