Chicago, Ill. - UIC senior Amanda Rivera was named the Horizon League Softball Player of the Week on Monday afternoon, following one of the best seven-day stretches of her illustrious career.
For the week, Rivera homered in five of the Flames' six games, totaling a .471 (8-for-17) average with six home runs and 12 RBI as UIC went 5-1.
The six long-balls blasted Rivera, the UIC career home run leader (48), into the UIC single-season record book for homers as she now owns 16 this season. The previous record was 15 set by All-American Edel Leyden in 2002. The record-setting shot came in the fifth inning of the Flames' series finale at Detroit on Sunday.
This is the second time this season Rivera has taken home player of the week accolades, last earning the award back on March 22nd. For the year, the Redondo Beach, Calif., native is now hitting .355 with 16 home runs and 44 RBI.
Rivera and the rest of the Flames will be back in action on Tuesday as they host Butler in a single game at 4:00 p.m.
