Chicago, Ill. - The Horizon League announced on Monday afternoon, that UIC junior Brittany McIntyre has been named the Pitcher of the Week for the period ending March 27th.
McIntyre helped the Flames extend their winning steak to 11 games last week as she went 2-0 with a save in three appearances while posting a miniscule 0.44 ERA.
This is the first time McIntyre has been named Horizon League Pitcher of the Week and marks the second time a UIC hurler has earned the honor this season.
The Orland Park, Ill., native opened last week with perhaps her best outing of the year, tossing a one-hitter in the Flames' 5-0 triumph at Charlotte on March 22nd. McIntyre faced just 23 batters versus the 49ers, striking out four and walking just one.
Later that day, she helped UIC complete the sweep of Charlotte, working two innings of relief to pick up her first career save in a 4-2 victory.
McIntyre's final start of the week was another shutout. This time she limited Elon to just three hits as the Flames earned a 3-0 triumph.
McIntyre, who is now 6-1 with a save in her last nine outings, sits at 8-7 overall this season with a 3.75 ERA.
The UIC softball team will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to take on Indiana in an afternoon doubleheader with first pitch slated for 1:00 p.m. CST.
