Chicago, Ill. - For the ninth consecutive year, the UIC softball team will head to Clearwater, Fla., to compete in the Speedline Invitational hosted by the University of South Florida.
The Flames (7-10) will open play in the 25-team, four-day event on Thursday by taking on BYU at 3:00 p.m. in pool play action.
UIC will take on each of the four teams in its pool once and then advance into single-elimination tournament play based on its pool record. BYU, UMass, Buffalo and Jacksonville are the Flames' competition in Pool IV this weekend.
The Speedline Invitational is UIC's most consistent stop during its annual non-conference tournament tour. The Flames are 27-23 all-time in eight prior trips to the event and are still looking for their first tournament title. UIC's best prior finish was in the 2000 season when they went 5-1 with its lone loss at the hands of Mississippi State.
