Chicago, Ill.- The UIC softball team begins defense of its Horizon League Tournament crown on Thursday, May 12th, when it takes on eighth-seeded Youngstown State in opening-round action at the Ashwaubenon Sports Complex in Green Bay, Wis.

The Flames, who won the outright Horizon League regular-season title with a 14-4 record, have taken home six of the last seven league tournament crowns and are 22-2 in tournament play since 1998.

The winner of the Horizon League Tournament receives an automatic berth into the 64-team field for the NCAA Regional Championships.

UIC swept its three-game series with Youngstown State (19-32, 4-13) during the regular-season. Should the Flames advance past the Penguins, they would meet the winner of #4 Loyola and #5 Detroit later on Thursday at 1:30 p.m.

Tournament semifinals and consolation bracket games continue on Friday with the championship game scheduled for Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

UIC's offense has been red hot against Horizon League teams this season with the Flames boasting a .362 team batting average while averaging 10 hits and over six runs per game.
