Temple Terrace, Fla. - In the last scheduled contest for UIC before the first round of tournament play at the USF Speedline Invite later today, the Flames edged Buffalo, 2-0.
Freshmen Melissa Marinacci and Sarah Clynes paced UIC (7-16) to victory.
Marinacci gave the Flames all the offense they would need with a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning. It was her first career home run.
Clynes took care of the rest, tossing a two-hitter while fanning eight for her third win of the season.
UIC is now set to play Florida International at 5:30 p.m. CST to continue on in the championship bracket on Sunday, March 19th. The Flames would fall into the consolation bracket with a loss.
This was the second meeting between UIC and Buffalo (7-15) in the last week as they last squared off in the final game of pool play at the USF Adidas Invitational with the Flames prevailing, 3-1.
