May 13, 2006

Box Score

Chicago, Ill.- The UIC baseball team posted 20-plus hits for the second consecutive game to back seven innings of stellar work from starter Zach Peterson en route to a 18-1 rout of Butler in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader at Les Miller Field.

UIC (29-17, 18-6 Horizon League) scored at least two runs in the first seven innings, pounding out 21 hits during that span.

Larry Gempp Jr. went yard twice for a six-RBI performance, and Justin Johnson homered and drove in five runs to pace UIC's offensive attack.

After Butler (17-28, 9-16 Horizon League) scored a run on three hits in the first inning, Peterson retired the next 17 hitters in order and allowed just one hit in his final six innings. The junior right-hander struck out six and improved to 7-3 with the win.

Chad Schroeder went 3-for-4, hitting his second home run of the season.

The Flames have scored 41 runs and smacked 48 hits in their last two games.
