Chicago, Ill.- The UIC baseball team scored in every inning but one to easily defeat Big Ten-leading Northwestern, 23-5, at Les Miller Field on Tuesday night.
Five Flames players homered to pace UIC (28-17), which tied the Les Miller Field record for hits in a game with a season-high 26.
Bart Babineaux went 3-for-4 with three RBI, driving in two with his Horizon League-leading 15th home run of season in the second inning.
Justin Johnson went 2-for-5 at the plate with a grand slam, while Larry Gempp Jr., Ted Rosinski and Kevin Zalnis also went deep for the Flames.
Mark Hallberg went 4-for-6 at the dish with three RBI and three runs scored. Chad Schroeder (3-for-5, four RBI) and Ben Trotter (3-for-4, three runs) also added firepower to the Flames' offensive onslaught.
UIC took a quick 4-0 lead in the first inning, but Northwestern (19-28) responded with three runs of its own in the top of the second to cut the Flames' lead to one run.
But the Flames continued to pour on the offense, scoring six times in their half of the second to takes a 10-3 advantage.
UIC would go on to score a run in both the fifth and sixth innings, four in the seventh and six in the eighth. Zalnis highlighted the bottom of the eighth with his first career hit going over the left field fence for a three-run blast.
Joe Skinner was awarded the victory in with 1.1 innings of one-hit scoreless relief.
The Flames close out the home slate this weekend with a three-game series against Butler at Les Miller Field beginning on Friday at 4:00 p.m.
